Westinghouse announced it will reorganize the business segment responsible for its third-generation AP1000 reactor.

In a release Monday, the Toshiba subsidiary said it would split the part of the company responsible for new nuclear power plants into two organizations –  one focused on project delivery and another focused on business development.

"These changes will enhance our ability to meet the unique needs of our existing new plant customers and to focus on new approaches in developing new plant opportunities globally. While both organizations have distinct roles, they will be closely aligned to ensure the overall success of the AP1000 program," incoming CEO Jim Ferland said in the release.

The company is currently helping to build four reactors in China, two at Plant Vogtle in Georgia and two at the V.C. Summer plant in South Carolina.

Heading the business development team, Senior Vice President Sandy Rupprecht will lead promotion of the AP1000 globally. Senior Vice President Deva Chari will head the project delivery segment and will interact with AP1000 customers on a day-to-day basis to ensure project milestones are met.
