Rolls-Royce will help update instrumentation and control systems at 20 French reactors under a €250 million contract announced Monday.

As part of the French reactor modernization program, the latest Rolls I&C technology will be installed in France's fleet of 1300-megawatt pressurized water reactors. Areva will carry out the work during outages managed by French utility EDF.

"We are proud of our relationship with Areva and our long partnership with EDF which spans over forty years. We are pleased that they have once again put their trust in our world-class I&C technologies which help to ensure the safety and performance of their reactors," Benoit Chabre, Rolls-Royce I&C president, said in a release.

The contract covers instrumentation for the reactor protection, nuclear instrumentation and rod control systems using the company's Spinlinea and Rodline technologies. Rolls is the original I&C equipment manufacturer for core control and other systems at all 58 French power reactors.
