On Thursday the nuclear energy division of Rolls-Royce announced its acquisition of R Brooks Associates, an American firm that performs roughly 200 inspections at reactors and other power facilities yearly.
The $14 million deal “is a further step towards growing our global civil nuclear business,” Lawrie Haynes, president of Rolls-Royce’s nuclear business, said in a release. “Brooks has an enviable reputation for unique inspection technology, and it has some of the best people in the industry. We look forward to welcoming them into our business.”
The addition of R Brooks’ business will bolster Rolls-Royce’s market position in reactor support services, which already composed half of the British firm’s civilian nuclear business. According to the release, the nuclear division employs 2,900 worldwide and supports reactors in 20 countries in Europe, North America and Asia. The company has 50 years of experience in reactor services, including inspections, manufacturing, project management and licensing.
Founded in 1984 and headquartered in Williamson, N.Y., R Brooks Associates is a market leader in secondary steam generator inspections at U.S. reactors and also has clients in France and the UK, according to its website. Its 104 employees also handle projects that encompass laser scanning to create 3D models of industrial facilities, custom tooling, custom engineering and audio/visual monitoring equipment.
