Plans for a second reactor at the Netherlands’ Borssele nuclear plant will be put on hold for two to three years, Delta NV announced Monday.

Delta and minority partner RWE AG had planned to add another unit at the country’s sole operating nuclear plant, Dow Jones reported. Unlike neighboring Germany, Holland has not moved to end nuclear power within its borders. Instead, Delta cited an unfavorable market climate in delaying the project.

Borssele is currently the site of a 485 megawatt pressurized water reactor built by Siemens that came online in 1973 and provides about 4 percent of the country’s power, according to the World Nuclear Association. In 2008 Delta announced it would build a second unit, with construction of a 1,600 megawatt to 2,500 megawatt reactor at one point scheduled to begin in 2013 with tentative completion in 2018.
