The head of a Department of Energy contractor charged with managing Hanford tank waste has announced he will retire at the end of June.
Mike Johnson was president of Washington River Protection Solutions for 14 months. He did not give a reason for his departure in an email to employees Wednesday obtained by Seattle's KING 5 news station. In the email, Johnson said he informed executives of his plans several months ago and that Lyden Olson will replace him on July 1. Olson is currently the president of Savannah River Remediation.
He will join the company at a time when WRPS has come under intense scrutiny following newly disclosed leaks in underground tanks at the Hanford site.
