On Thursday, Kurion announced it appointed William Gallo as its new CEO, promoting him from chief operating officer while previous CEO Ralph DiSibio stays on as the company's executive chairman.
“It was our vision to transition Bill into the CEO role when we brought him on board in March as chief operating officer, and he quickly integrated into the management team and made an immediate impact," DiSibio said in a release.
Gallo joined the Irvine, Calif.-based company after leading Areva Solar and Areva Federal Services.
Backed by venture capital funding, Kurion was founded in 2008 to develop technologies that can capture radiological and other contaminants. Its zeolite-based Ion Specific Media is in use at the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan, and last year the company announced a modular vitrification test program at the Hanford site.
