Wisconsin's Kewaunee nuclear plant may be shutting down next week, but its operator still faces a potential fine announced Tuesday for fire training conducted between 2009 and 2011.

In a release, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission said it has proposed a $70,000 fine for Dominion and a white finding for the plant. The agency said they stem from an investigation that concluded a fire brigade trainer conducted training sessions instead of required fire drills, then lied about them on forms.

The NRC noted that the brigade still possessed the experience, knowledge and resources to fight a fire at the plant. Nonetheless, the investigation resulted in action by Dominion against the former trainer and the trainer's supervisor, as well as a revamping of the plant's fire drill procedures.
