The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has appointed a new executive director for its Office of New Reactors following the promotion last month of Michael Johnson to the position of deputy executive director for reactor and preparedness programs.
The NRC announced the appointments Tuesday. Glenn Tracy, previously the agency’s deputy chief human capital officer, was tapped to head the new reactor office. When it was established in 2006, he was appointed director of its Division of Construction Inspection and Operational Programs.
Tracy graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served seven years as a submarine officer during his 30 years of active and reserve service. He joined the agency in 1989. In his new position, he will be responsible for the NRC’s work pertaining to the siting and licensing of new nuclear plants.
Johnson is also a Naval Academy graduate and long-time NRC staff member. He joining the agency in 1986 following 10 years of service in the submarine fleet, and he also served in the reserves. In his current position, he oversees the new reactor office, four regional administrators, the Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response and the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation.
