NAC International Inc. (NAC) will supply its MAGNASTOR spent fuel storage system to Taiwan Power Company’s (TPC) Kuosheng Nuclear Power Station. The agreement calls for a complete dry storage project solution with 27 MAGNASTOR systems and includes engineering, licensing, hardware, ISFSI design and construction, and fuel loading operations.
NAC will be teaming with CTCI Machinery of Taiwan (CTCIM, a member company of CTCI Group), an experienced engineering and fabrication firm already supplying NAC-UMS dry storage technology to TPC’s Chinshan BWR Nuclear Power Station. For the Kuosheng project, CTCIM will primarily be responsible to fabricate hardware components and perform site construction work.
“We are honored to be selected by the Taiwan Power Company and look forward to working with CTCI Machinery and local subcontractors to provide a safe, timely and robust storage solution that meets the requirements for the Kuosheng project,” said Kent Cole, NAC’s president.
The MAGNASTOR boiling water reactor (BWR) system is NAC’s latest example of its unwavering commitment to excellence in dry spent fuel storage. The BWR system has a storage capacity of 87 assemblies, making it the highest capacity, licensed multi-purpose canister based storage system. The unique design allows for simpler fabrication while providing a compact, high-capacity, low-weight configuration with excellent dose performance.
The TPC Kuosheng contract is NAC’s fourth MAGNASTOR award, bringing total MAGNASTOR commitments to more than 135 systems. The system received its NRC certification in February 2009 and NAC began delivering the systems in July 2010.
