Two French nuclear plants are in safe condition after a turbine-hall fire Monday and a non-nuclear steam leak the day before.

EDF workers discovered a fire in the turbine of Bugey unit 5 Monday afternoon, the Express newspaper reported. The reactor near Lyon shut down, and plant owner EDF reported that the fire was soon extinguished. French regulators confirmed the incident did not pose a threat to the environment.

On Sunday morning, a large steam cloud appeared above another EDF reactor in Normandy. The release caused a loud noise audible for about 15 minutes in the surrounding countryside, Le Monde reported. The steam came from the non-nuclear side of Flamanville unit 2 and did not pose a risk to the public. EDF said the cause of the release is under investigation. The Connexion newspaper reported the incident did not disrupt power production at the plant.
