Speaking at the Governor’s Conference on Energy, former Environmental Protection Agency head Christine Todd Whitman pointed to nuclear power as an important, safe and environmentally friendly source of future electrical generation.

Whitman, who served during George W. Bush’s administration after holding the governorship in New Jersey, is a co-chair of the nuclear-power-promoting Clean and Safe Energy Coalition. The Richmond Times-Dispatch quoted her as describing nuclear power as the most important form of clean energy because of its lack of greenhouse gas emissions and its record of safe operation in the U.S. She was speaking Monday at the event in Richmond, sponsored by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
