Flanders Corporation has won a purchase agreement for 8 glove boxes from Shaw AREVA MOX Services, LLC related to the MOX project at the Savannah River Site (SRS) near Aiken, South Carolina.
"We have been driving hard to build strong relationships with Shaw AREVA and win the MOX business," said Harry Smith, president and CEO. "Our proven track record through our 58 year history in the air filtration industry, ASME NQA-1 nuclear compliant quality program and proven custom design experience driven by our strong engineering and machine resources, uniquely positions Flanders to produce these glove boxes. Being added to Shaw AREVA's approved supplier list further emphasizes the trust and confidence in our ability and infrastructure to deliver the necessary products and services for such a program. We are very excited to receive the inaugural order for glove boxes in the MOX project."
In 1999, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) signed a contract with a consortium, now called Shaw AREVA MOX Services, LLC to design, build, and operate a Mixed Oxide (MOX) Fuel Fabrication Facility. This facility will be a major component in the United States' program to dispose of surplus weapon-grade plutonium. The 600,000 square foot facility will take surplus weapon-grade plutonium, remove impurities, and mix it with uranium oxide to form MOX fuel pellets for reactor fuel assemblies.
