A partnership between Bechtel and Babcock & Wilcox that
hopes to deploy a small modular reactor in the next decade has chosen several
executives to lead the project.
The joint company, called Generation mPower, announced
Thursday that it has selected B&W president of nuclear energy Christofer
Mowry as its new chairman. In that role, he will focus on strategy and policy,
according to a Generation mPower release.
Ali Azad will assume the president and CEO positions. He
joins the company following executive positions at Aquilex Corporation
and Welding Services, Inc.
Bechtel’s project director for Generation mPower, Ted
Feigenbaum, will become chief operating officer, overseeing the project’s
development and execution.
Bechtel joined B & W to form the company last summer.
The partnership focuses on designing, licensing and deploying B & W’s
scalable, modular mPower reactor. The
advanced light water reactor design can produce between 125 and 750 megawatts.
It features passive safety features and a 4.5-year operating cycle between
refuelings.
