Areva will provide fuel for Ohio’s Davis-Besse nuclear plant through 2026 under a modified contract announced Tuesday.
Under an amended 2006 agreement, FirstEnergy will buy Areva fuel for six refuelings. It calls for Areva’s new high-performance fuel assembly design, which has been used at the plant since 2006.
FirstEnergy operates a single 913 megawatt Babcock and Wilcox Raised Loop pressurized water reactor at the plant near Toledo, Ohio, according to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Areva has supplied its fuel since it began generating power in 1977.
