800 MW Unit 8 at the Bruce B generating station has returned to service

 – By Linton Levy –

Bruce Power's 800 MW Unit 8 at the Bruce B generating station has returned to service following an outage that began on July 14 due to a surplus of baseload generation in Ontario.   Unit 3,4,5, 6 and 7 all remain online.

On June 20, 2009 Unit 8 at the Bruce B generating station was returned to service following a planned maintenance program that began April 19.  During this period, workers performed inspections and routine maintenance on a host of systems and components. Many of these activities cannot be performed while the unit is running and all are intended to ensure the safe and reliable production of electricity.

With the return of Unit 8, all six of Bruce Power's units are now online and providing Ontario with a reliable source of low-emissions electricity heading into summer and an historic period of higher demand.

Bruce Power is a partnership among Cameco Corporation, TransCanada Corporation, BPC Generation Infrastructure Trust, a trust established by the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, the Power Workers’ Union and The Society of Energy Professionals.
