The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) announced that its subsidiary Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Energy, Inc. (B&W NE) has been awarded a $24 million contract from Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) in Omaha, Neb., for uprate modifications at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Generating Station. The scope of work includes engineering and construction to replace critical components and associated plant modifications.

“B&W provides world-class manufacturing, engineering, construction and inspection/repair services for the nuclear power markets,” said Chris Mowry, B&W NE President. “We are pleased to add OPPD to our growing list of nuclear energy customers.”

B&W’s engineering work began in December 2010 in preparation for power uprate activity during the plant’s 2012 refueling outage. This is the largest contract to be awarded by OPPD in its campaign to increase the capacity of the Fort Calhoun plant by 17 percent.
