A nuclear power services subsidiary of Babcock & Wilcox has announced plans to triple its footprint in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Babcock & Wilcox Intech will consolidate its operations at a new facility in the Centre South Riverport Industrial Park, according to a release from Tennessee's economic development agency. B&W will invest $4.8 million in the region and plans to add 50 jobs. The new location will allow room for additional growth and includes space for training, fabrication and proof-of-process activities.
Intech, acquired by B&W in 2008, offers custom tooling, robotics systems, training mockups and non-destructive examination services for nuclear plants and other industries. According to its website, about 150 engineers and technicians currently support Intech's field applications. In a statement, B&W Intech operations manager Allen Steagall said, “This expansion increases our capacity for solving customer challenges through new and innovative approaches while shortening the length of the inspection and repair process at operating nuclear plants.”
