A manual for software programs that run on Areva’s Teleperm XS instrumentation and controls system recently received approval from federal regulators, marking another step in Areva’s efforts to market its digital I&C systems in the U.S.
In a release Monday, Areva announced that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued a safety evaluation report for the manual last month. It is the first digital I&C manual approved by the agency, according to the release, and follows Areva’s announcement early this year that it received the NRC’s first-ever approval for the full application of a digital I&C system for safety equipment.
“This milestone, coupled with the successful June installation of Areva’s digital I&C Teleperm XS for the first time in the United States, means Areva’s customers benefit from a proven system,” Areva CEO Mike Rencheck was quoted as saying in a release. “Most importantly, our customers have increased predictability in licensing, engineering, procurement and installation and reliable system performance.”
The manual can be referenced when evaluating new Teleperm XS software, simplifying the license review process. The manual serves to ensure Teleperm XS programs under development perform safety functions correctly and conform to technical requirements and industry rules.
