Areva this week announced two deals in the United States, one to provide fuel to Dominion's Millstone nuclear plant and another to invest $26.3 million at its facilities in Virginia.

On Wednesday, the French company said it won a $73 million contract to provide fuel for unit 2 at Millstone in Connecticut. The reactor has already used Areva fuel, and the new contract will last until the plant's license expires in 2035. The scope of work includes fuel fabrication, studies and engineering services.

In central Virginia, Areva received incentives from state and local governments totaling $700,000 as it plans to invest $10.9 million in machinery at its Lynchburg facilities and another $6.9 million at the Areva Solutions Complex in Campbell County. The investment was announced earlier this week as Areva formally renamed its Lynchburg operations as its new North American Operational Center of Excellence for Nuclear Products and Services. Areva currently employs about 1,800 in the region, which also saw the construction of the company's U.S. Technical Center last year.
