GSE Systems, Inc. (GSE), a leading global provider of real-time simulation and training solutions to the power, process, manufacturing and Government sectors, announced the award of over $8 million of new work in its nuclear simulation sector.

Included in the awards are contracts to provide various simulator upgrades for customers in the United States, Korea and Europe and to provide engineering services and simulation technology for waste treatment cleanup facilities under construction at the Hanford site in Richland, Washington. In addition, the Company received a contract to develop simulator models for Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Company Ltd. (GNPC) in China that will allow validation and verification of GNPC’s CPR-1000 instrumentation and controls design as well as for use in control room human factors studies.

Among the new contracts are projects to implement the Company’s RELAP5-HDTM code, bringing to thirteen the number of installations utilizing this state of the art solution for simulating the intricate phenomena of a nuclear reactor core.

The Company was awarded a subcontract to provide engineering services and simulation technology for the waste treatment cleanup facilities under construction at the Hanford site in Richland, Washington. The Department of Energy is undertaking an unprecedented project to clean up nuclear waste through a vitrification process which combines the waste with molten glass to provide a safe, long term storage solution. The initial subcontract is to provide GSE’s simulation tools and evaluate the current simulation capabilities and future tasks towards building simulators for numerous separate facilities at the site.

John V. Moran, GSE’s Chief Executive Officer stated, “It is nice to see a continuous stream of contracts associated with our installed base of simulators. We anticipate a continuation of this type of work coming from our US and overseas customers. The project at Hanford is the first step in a potentially long term opportunity. We have been doing similar work at the Savannah River Site for over a decade and hope to match that success at Hanford.”
