Entergy, the second-largest provider of nuclear-generated electricity in the U.S., is calling upon Simona De Silvestro to once again be the brand ambassador for the national Nuclear Clean Air Energy initiative. After two years promoting clean, low-cost, safe nuclear power through a partnership with Newman Wachs Racing Team, Entergy Nuclear is switching gears to sponsor a car in this year’s Indianapolis 500 race on Memorial Day weekend.
The move is an opportunity for Entergy Nuclear to support De Silvestro in her rookie season on the IZOD IndyCar Series by joining the Team Stargate Worlds/HVM Racing team for this premiere event.
De Silvestro is no stranger to the benefits of nuclear energy. She drove the Nuclear Clean Air Energy car for Newman Wachs Racing and Entergy in the 2008 Atlantic Championship Series.
“We believe in the Nuclear Clean Air Energy national effort and have always believed in Simona’s talent behind the wheel. It is great to a part of a team that is on the biggest stage in the world for motorsport. This is a significant step for our company, our green message and for the entire nuclear energy industry,” said John Herron, CEO and chief nuclear officer of Entergy Nuclear.
Entergy is leveraging the IndyCar Series partnership to educate the public about the green benefits of nuclear power and to aid college and university student recruiting efforts. “Simona was our first spokesperson and is, yet again, a perfect match to convey the nuclear message,” noted Herron.
“I am very proud to support the ‘Nuclear Clean Air Energy’ message for Entergy and this important campaign. Clean energy generation is a key issue globally and I'm glad to be representing an industry that is a viable, green option,” stated De Silvestro. “I am grateful for Entergy's confidence in me to carry their colors and message again and for becoming a part of my first Indy 500.”
Entergy Nuclear owns, operates or manages 12 nuclear units at 10 sites located in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, New York and Vermont.
Entergy Corporation is an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations. Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity, and it is the second-largest nuclear generator in the United States. Entergy delivers electricity to 2.7 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Entergy has annual revenues of more than $10 billion and more than 15,000 employees.
