The Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded the team of LATA-Stoller-B&W a cleanup contract, valued at approximately $285 million, at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant near Paducah, Kentucky. Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Group, Inc. (B&W TSG) is a member of the winning team, which was chosen over four other bids for the contract.
“We are pleased to be part of the LATA Environmental Services of Kentucky, LLC team that was selected for this very important remediation mission at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant,” said S. Robert Cochran, President, B&W TSG. “We are proud to be partnered with high-quality companies like LATA and Stoller to successfully and safely execute this work on behalf of the DOE’s Environmental Management program.”

The Portsmouth/Paducah Project Office (PPPO) mission is to accomplish the following at the Portsmouth and Paducah Sites.
Environmental Remediation
Waste Management
Depleted Uranium Hexafluoride (DUF6) Conversion
Decontamination and Decommissioning
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) established the Portsmouth/Paducah Project Office on October 1, 2003, to provide focused leadership to the Environmental Management missions at the Portsmouth, Ohio and Paducah, Kentucky Gaseous Diffusion Plants.
The Lexington, Kentucky Office opened in January 2004, and is located mid-way between the Kentucky and Ohio facilities. Although the Office Manager is located in the Lexington office, frequent and routine site interactions occur by this office at both the Portsmouth and Paducah Sites operations. Additionally, DOE maintains a strong presence at the sites on a daily basis through the Portsmouth and Paducah Operations Oversight Groups. The PPPO goal is to accelerate the site cleanup at the Portsmouth and Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plants, eliminating potential environmental threats, reducing the DOE footprint at each of the sites, and reducing life-cycle cost.
The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W), a major operating subsidiary of McDermott International, Inc., is a leader in advanced energy technology innovation and service, primarily in nuclear and fossil power. Providing quality products and technical services to commercial and government customers, B&W is focused on issues such as energy efficiency, clean air, global market competitiveness, and safe and secure resolution for nuclear waste. B&W has locations worldwide and employs approximately 13,000 people, not including approximately 10,000 joint venture employees. The company is located on the Internet at www.babcock.com.
