Russia has received a formal invitation to take part in a bidding contest for the right to build a nuclear power plant in Egypt, the chief of the Rosatom atomic energy corporation, Sergei Kiriyenko, said on Wednesday.
“There is the official invitation. The bidding contest will be announced most probably at the end of 2010,” Kiriyenko told the media.
In a week’s time a group of Rosatom specialists will visit Egypt for a discussion of practical issues connected with NPP construction and uranium mining.
The Rosatom chief said Russia had already presented its proposal for building a nuclear power plant in Egypt. At this point the issue on the agenda is building one nuclear power plant for two reactors, four at the most.
“The starting price of one unit is approximately the same around the world, 2.5 billion dollars,” Kiriyenko said, adding that the adviser selected for the Egypt NPP bid suited the Russian side very much.
“We worked with it in Bulgaria,” he said.
