FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., has announced its Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, in Oak Harbor, Ohio, shut down earlier today for scheduled maintenance work.
Multiple projects will be completed during the outage to improve plant reliability, which includes the replacement of valves and maintenance work on systems supplying cooling water to the plant. A number of safety inspections will also be conducted.
The plant's 908-megawatt (net) reactor has been in continuous safe operation since its last refueling in February 2008. Davis-Besse employees continue to safely work, logging more than 9.7 million hours or about five years without a lost-time incident.
FirstEnergy Corp., headquartered in Akron, Ohio, is a diversified energy company. Its FENOC subsidiary operates and owns the Beaver Valley Power Station in Shippingport, Pennsylvania; Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Perry, Ohio and Davis-Besse.
