Westinghouse is asking a South African court for further review of a decision by state-owned Eskom after it awarded a steam generator replacement contract to Areva.
In a statement reported by the South African Press Association Monday, Westinghouse said it has filed an expedited review application in the High Court, following an earlier decision requiring Eskom to provide the company with documents related to the tender. The U.S.-based Toshiba subsidiary contends that those documents show the decision was flawed and should be set aside by the court.
At stake is a $381 million contract to replace six steam generators at the Koeberg nuclear plant. Eskom signed a contract for that work with Areva last month after Westinghouse withdrew an initial court challenge protesting the award, South African media reported. That decision had followed three years of contentious bidding processes and reversed decisions about which company would conduct the work.
