A bomb threat evacuated a building outside the protected area at Arizona's Palo Verde nuclear plant Wednesday.
The plant reported the threat to police at 5:30 p.m. and an administrative building was evacuated, a sheriff's spokesman told the Arizona Republic. After an extensive search, plant security personnel determined the threat was not credible, particularly given the building's security.
Reactor operations were not affected, and all units were at full power as of Thursday morning, according to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Located near Phoenix, Palo Verde is the largest nuclear plant in the country, generating more than 4,000 megawatts from three Combustion Engineering System 80 reactors.
