Daher-TLI, a specialty logistics company that handles radioactive material, has opened a new manufacturing plant in Virginia.

Employing 33 people, the 90,000-square-foot facility will produce 7A Type A containers, as well as overpacks, liners, storage systems and other products for use in the nuclear industry. In a release, an executive from the Paris-headquartered Daher Group said the opening last week is part of larger plans to expand the company's operations in North America. The plant is located in Washington County, in the southwest corner of the state.

Based in Maryland, the group's Daher-TLI business handles radioactive cargo that includes uranium ore concentrates, uranium hexafluoride, enriched uranium, fuel assemblies and byproduct materials. From 1999 until the program's completion last year, the company managed transportation for the Megatons to Megawatts program to dispose of surplus nuclear material from Russia. Daher-TLI opened a UF6 cylinder service center in Kevil, Ky., last December.
