Small modular reactor developer NuScale Power this week announced a partnership with Enercon Services, a Georgia engineering firm that helps new nuclear plants with the licensing process.

In a release Tuesday, NuScale said Enercon will take an equity position in the Oregon company and support its design certification application. Financial details were not disclosed, but a NuScale executive told the Oregonian newspaper the deal did not result in an injection of cash.

NuScale is developing a 45 megawatt pressurized water reactor that can be incorporated in a plant with as many as 12 units manufactured off site. It is majority owned by Fluor and recently won up to $226 million in matching funds from the Department of Energy to help develop and license SMR technology. Last summer the company announced that British nuclear manufacturer Rolls-Royce would contribute to its application for the DOE funding.

"I am pleased to add Enercon to our growing team of partners who are committed to the successful deployment of the safest small modular reactor nuclear energy technology ever developed. Enercon's experience and capabilities in the areas of new plant licensing will be a powerful asset moving forward," NuScale CEO John Hopkins said in a release.
