A Bechtel-led consortium is preparing to assume management of the Y-12 and Pantex sites after more than a year of appeals from their previous contractor.

Babcock & Wilcox-led Nuclear Production Partners recently lost its third appeal of a National Nuclear Security Administration decision to end its 11-year oversight of the facilities. On Friday, the new contractor, known as Consolidated Nuclear Security, announced it received the NNSA's go-ahead to begin the transition.

A newly launched website announced that Bechtel-led CNS has begun surveying the existing workforce at the national security sites in Tennessee and Texas. Within 90 days, the company plans to extend employment offers to the people it wants to retain. The benefits package for Y-12 and Pantex employees will change once the transition is complete. The consortium also invited suppliers and subcontractors to register on Bechtel's purchasing website.

A CNS spokesman told the Amarillo Globe-News that the transition will take about four months.
