International engineering firm Amec has purchased Automated Engineering Services Corp., an Illinois company that contracts with U.S. nuclear plants, for $29 million.
An Amec release said the U.S. company has annual revenues in excess of $30 million and employs about 175 people. It will be known as AMEC AES following the merger.
Previously employee-owned, AES began serving the nuclear industry in 1990 and has done work for about 30 U.S. nuclear plants, according to its website. The firm is known for boiling water reactor containment analysis, including hydrodynamic load development, Mark I piping analysis and safety relief valve transient analysis. It helps plants reduce worker doses by designing shielding structures and work platforms. It's also helped utilities make security upgrades required by federal regulations.
"This acquisition builds on our nuclear position in the U.S., allows us to better serve our clients and provides a solid platform from which to achieve further growth. It is an important addition to our strong positions in the nuclear markets in Canada and Europe,” Amec's Americas president for power and process business, Tim Gelbar, said in an announcement Monday.
