A small modular reactor developer has hired a new chief operating offer who previously oversaw the contract to build two new reactors at the V.C. Summer nuclear plant.
Babcock & Wilcox announced William Fox III took over operational responsibility at Generation mPower Monday. The B&W-Bechtel consortium is developing a modular, 180 megawatt light water reactor using as much as $452 million in matching funds awarded by the Department of Energy last year. Fox will oversee the company's application for Nuclear Regulatory Commission design certification and the SMR's planned deployment at the Tennessee Valley Authority's Clinch River site.
According to a report in the Charlotte Business Journal, Fox previously oversaw Chicago Bridge & Iron's engineering, procurement and construction contract at V.C. Summer units 2 and 3. That responsibility was turned over to acting project director Hal Thornberry last week.
