Some of the top names in nuclear energy will gather in Idaho next month at a conference exploring the future of small modular reactors.
"From Concept to Reality: Small Modular Reactors" will run from Oct. 30 through Nov. 1 in Idaho Falls. It will address the market factors, regulatory hurdles, public opinion and workforce development issues relevant to the technology's commercial deployment. Two days of seminars and panel discussions will follow a tour of the Idaho National Laboratory. Speakers will include executives from Westinghouse, General Dynamics and the Nuclear Energy Institute, as well as companies currently competing for Department of Energy funding to help license SMRs. The conference will also feature nuclear researchers from universities and the national labs, as well as representatives from nuclear utilities and Idaho politicians.
