Upstate New York's Ginna nuclear plant entered the weekend offline following a turbine trip on Wednesday.

At 2:19 p.m., the reactor shut down automatically from full power after a generator problem caused the turbine to trip, according to a report filed with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. All safety systems performed as expected.

Quoting NRC and Constellation Energy representatives, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported that an incorrectly set protective electrical relay tripped the generator during a test. Workers were addressing lubrication issues related to the turbine Friday, and Constellation could not estimate when the plant would be back online.

Ginna's single Westinghouse pressurized water reactor generates 581 megawatts. Located near Rochester, N.Y., it was first licensed in 1969, according to the NRC.
