PPL Corp. took one of its reactors at Pennsylvania's Susquehanna nuclear plant offline for valve repairs Sunday.

In a release, the company said crews are repairing one of four valves that control the steam supply to the turbine. Further details were limited, although the utility said it expects to reconnect the unit to the grid soon. PPL Chief Nuclear Officer Timothy Rausch was quoted in the release as saying, "The repair also supports optimal performance of the unit during the summer months when the demand for power is high."

According to data provided to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, unit 1 was at 22 percent power Monday, while unit 2 continued to operate at full power. Unit 1 is a General Electric Type 4 boiling water reactor with Mark II containment. It was first licensed in 1982.
