Babcock & Wilcox may get another chance to continue its oversight of two National Nuclear Security Administration sites after the Government Accountability Office sustained the company's appeal of an earlier NNSA contracting decision.
In January, NNSA awarded a Bechtel-Lockheed Martin consortium a contract worth as much as $709 million to operate Y-12 in Tennessee and Pantex in Texas, sites B&W had managed for 12 years. B&W appealed the decision to the GAO, which recommended reopening the competition in a decision Monday, according to a B&W release.
B&W continues to run the facilities while the contract is in dispute. If it loses, the contract will go to Consolidated Nuclear Security, which was formed by Bechtel, Lockheed Martin, ATK Launch Systems and SOC.
