Entergy announced Tuesday that its chief nuclear officer will retire in March.
John Herron has held that position since 2009. He will depart after 33 years in the nuclear industry and 12 at Entergy, according to a release.
Jeff Forbes, Entergy's senior vice president of nuclear operations, will take his place. He's overseen the daily operation of the company's 11 reactors since August of 2011 and previously directed operations for Entergy's southern region. Earlier, Forbes was vice president of operations at Arkansas Nuclear One and Grand Gulf. He's worked in nuclear power since 1978 when he began his career as an operations engineer at the Oconee plant, where he eventually earned his senior reactor operator license. He also worked as an executive for the Nuclear Management Company before Entergy hired him in 2003.
