An oil leak on the non-nuclear side of the plant shut down unit 2 at Susquehanna Monday as it powered up following an earlier computer problem.

Operators manually shut down the reactor after hydraulic oil began to leak from a system that controls the flow of steam to the unit's turbine, according to a PPL release. The oil was confined to the turbine building. The reactor is in safe condition, and the source of the leak is under investigation.

The unit was returning to service after a shutdown Nov. 9 following a malfunction in a computer system that controls the reactor's water level. While it was offline, crews also checked turbine blades as part of a program initiated in the spring to address blade cracking at both units.

Unit 1, which returned to service Nov. 7 following its own blade inspection, was not affected by Monday's shutdown.
