Rolls-Royce announced a contract Thursday to modernize instrumentation and control systems for two reactors at China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corp.'s Ling Ao nuclear plant near Hong Kong.
The project will upgrade the analog equipment at the plant's phase-one units to the digital Spinline technology used by the newer reactors at phase two of the site. Specifically, the contract will replace neutron instrumentation, as the company plans to do at a number of Chinese plants.
"Our neutron instrumentation technology will be deployed in each of China's current and planned fleet of 22 CPR-type reactors," Benoit Chabre, Rolls-Royce president of I&C, said in a release.
The older Ling Ao units entered service in 2002 and 2003. According to the World Nuclear Association, they are based on the Framatome (Areva) M310 pressurized water reactor design but with 30 percent localization.
