A Rosatom executive has said the Russian company is willing to help finance construction of two new reactors at the Czech Republic's Temelin nuclear plant.
In an interview with Bloomberg published Friday, Rosatom Deputy Chief Executive Officer Kirill Komarov said that, while Czech utility CEZ has not yet approached his company regarding financing, Rosatom stands ready to become a minority plant shareholder. CEZ is considering possible financial partners and is expected to solicit them formally after it selects a company to build the units next year.
A consortium led by Rosatom subsidiary Atomstroyexport has submitted a bid to build two MIR-1200 reactors at the plant. Westinghouse is in the running with its AP1000, while earlier this month Areva's bid was unexpectedly disqualified. Areva is appealing that decision.
Komarov also told the news agency his company hasn't ruled out working with Areva, but Rosatom would need to alter its list of subcontractors.
