Barry Allen, the site vice president at the Davis-Besse nuclear plant in Ohio, will soon assume responsibility for operations at California's Diablo Canyon plant.
In an announcement Friday, Pacific Gas and Electric said Allen will replace previous Diablo Canyon site VP Jim Becker, who recently became the first president of the STARS Alliance of large Westinghouse reactor operators sharing best practices in NRC Region IV. At Davis-Besse, FirstEnergy announced that Beaver Valley Site Operations Director Raymond A. Lieb will replace Allen beginning Oct. 8.
"Barry Allen's strong leadership and vast experience in running nuclear power generating facilities will be invaluable as we continue to build upon Diablo Canyon's strong record of safety and efficient operations," PG&E Chief Nuclear Officer Ed Halpin said in a release. "We are excited to have Barry join the Diablo Canyon team and I look forward to working with him in his new role."
With a bachelor's of architecture structures and a master of civil engineering from Texas Tech, Allen also headed engineering at Entergy's Waterford 3 plant and other management positions at FirstEnergy's Perry plant, where he was site vice president before taking the position at Davis-Besse.
