The contractors that manage the Savannah River Site in South Carolina earned $44.3 million of $49.7 million in performance incentives available for 2011 in its contracts with the government.

Overall, both the Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration gave Savannah River Nuclear Solutions high marks for its work managing various cleanup, tritium production, nuclear fuel and other programs at the site. Citing government documents obtained by an environmental group, the Augusta Chronicle reported the company earned accolades for workforce training, green development strategies and emergency radiological studies following the Fukushima Daiichi accidents in Japan. On the negative side, DOE also considered a construction worker injury last year in assessing the incentives.

An evaluation from the National Nuclear Security Administration commended the company’s completion of plutonium disposition objectives while raising concerns about reestablished lines of responsibility following a corporate reorganization. NNSA’s portion of the overall performance award came to $600,000 of a possible $800,000, reflecting a grade of good to very good.

SNRS is a consortium of Fluor, Huntington Ingalls subsidiary Newport News Nuclear and Honeywell International.
