Over the next three years, Maryland’s GSE Systems will provide solutions worth $7.5 million to Chinese nuclear engineering companies, GSE announced Monday.

GSE will provide a verification and validation (V&V) platform for the instrumentation and control systems of third-generation nuclear plants, according to a release from the company. Work under the contracts began last month.

“These are significant contracts won by GSE in the area of applying high fidelity simulation technologies for design and V&V of the new generation of intrinsically safe nuclear power plant designs. We are very pleased with both the growth of our engineering simulation solutions and the recognition of our high fidelity simulation modeling in China’s energy market,” GSE CEO Jim Eberle said in the release.

While the announcement did not name the two Chinese companies it will conduct the work for, GSE’s website counts China Nuclear Power Engineering Company among its clients. An earlier company newsletter reported the firm is working on a V&V platform for CNPEC’s CPR1000 reactor.

In the nuclear sector, GSE provides real-time, high-fidelity simulation and training. In the U.S., it partnered with Augusta Technical College and Southern Co. to help form the Nuclear Operator Jump Start Program, according to the American Nuclear Society’s publication, Nuclear News. Begun in 2009, the program helps train plant personnel in preparation for the completion units 3 and 4 at Plant Vogtle.
