Tecnatom, an engineering company that provides services to the nuclear industry, has been awarded a contract by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) to develop emergency plans for Braka units 1 and 2 in the United Arab Emirates.

The contract stipulates the developing of the site's emergency plans, procedures supporting the plans, associated training programs, specific software for dose assessment, evacuation time estimations, emergency action plans, protective action plans and other related activities.

The contract also allows relations between Tecnatom and ENEC to be consolidated, as well as making it possible for collaboration regarding the construction of eight PWR reactor groups in the UAE.

ENEC was set up by the UAE government to coordinate and lead construction of the country's first nuclear power plants in Braka. The plants expect to begin construction in late 2012 and hope to begin generating electricity in 2017.
