The Shaw Group announced Thursday that it signed a maintenance contract with the largest nuclear plant in the United States.

The contract with Arizona Public Service Co. covers maintenance, modifications, construction and radiological protection services at the Palo Verde nuclear plant near Phoenix.

“APS is keenly focused on providing safe and reliable service to its customers, and Shaw is prepared to work closely with them to achieve performance excellence,” Ron McCall, president of Shaw’s plant services division, said in a release. “We respect the operating standards APS has demonstrated and are prepared to provide comprehensive management of tasks and projects that will help them safely and efficiently generate electricity for the long term.”

Shaw would not provide the value of the contract but did say it was for three years. The company provides services to nearly half of the U.S. power reactor fleet.

Palo Verde uses three System 80 pressurized water reactors designed by Combustion Engineering. Together they generate more than 4,000 megawatts.
