Danny G. Bost, an engineer who's held executive positions at several nuclear plants operated by Exelon, Entergy and Southern Co., will become chief nuclear officer for Southern Nuclear, the company announced Monday.
Starting Oct. 17, he will take over for Jeff Gasser, who has held the position since 2004 and will join the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations as a loaned executive.
A civil engineering graduate of Mississippi State University, Bost began his career at the Grand Gulf nuclear plant before joining Southern in 1983. He earned his senior reactor operator certification in 1990 and advanced to various management positions at Plant Vogtle, including vice president.
Later he held leadership positions at Exelon's Dresden and LaSalle County plants, and he rejoins Southern after three years as a consultant with the Nuclear Safety Review Board.
In his new position, Bost will oversee the performance of Southern's six operating reactors. According to the company, the nuclear generation at the Farley, Hatch and Vogtle plants provides about 1/5 of the electricity consumed in Alabama and Georgia.
