Constellation Energy announced Tuesday that Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas will replace the electric generator at its upstate New York nuclear plant.
During a maintenance and refueling outage planned for 2014, Constellation will replace the generator, excitation system and related auxiliaries at the R.E. Ginna plant. While the release did not specifically list the value of the Mitsubishi contract, the company said the generator replacement project was estimated to cost $50 million.
In chosing Mitsubishi for the job, Constellation pointed out that it has invested more than $500 million in manufacturing facilities in Florida, Georgia and Arkansas that can make or repair power generation equipment.
Licensed in 1969, the Ginna plant uses a single 498-megawatt Westinghouse pressurized water reactor situated 20 miles from Rochester, N.Y.
