Spain's Iberdrola Engineering, who carried out the work as the 97% partner in a consortium with Alstom Mexico, has announced that both boiling water reactors at Laguna Verde are now online. The modernization program increased the two unit power plant's thermal power by 20%. The capacity of each unit now stands at 820 MW.

Modifications included:

  • turbine and condenser retrofit
  • replaced electric generator
  • replaced main steam reheater
  • replaced feedwater heater

The first Unit went online in 1989 and second unit in 1994.
